Howell Weather Station is located in the southeast section of Howell Township New Jersey (Ramtown) at a ground elevation of 62 feet above sea level.

Ramtown is approx 8.95 square miles of rural land. Nearby locations from the station are Point Pleasant approx 5.5 miles east, Belmar approx 8.5 miles northeast and Lakehurst approx 11 miles southwest.

The station is privately owned and operated. Formed, constructed and began sending LIVE weather information over the Internet on October 26, 2003.

Weather equipment being used are the AWS WeatherBug Tracking Station with InstaCam, the Davis Vantage Pro Plus with Live WX Cam and the Boltek Storm Tracker Lightning Detector.


Primary Station - AWS WeatherBug Tracking Station with InstaCam consists the following:

Wind SensorRecords wind speed, wind direction, average wind speed, and highest gust for the day.  (Propeller type)

Sensor Shelf - Records 18 weather parameters, including temperature, relative humidity, heat index, barometric pressure, dew point, light, and more.

Rain Gauge - Records five weather parameters including daily, monthly and yearly rain measurements and amounts of rain per hour.

Digital Display - Indoor display showing the current weather station readings.

Server Computer ID#-211 - Running all the custom server software WeatherBug has to offer.

Control Unit - Processes, transmits and stores data.

Weather Streamer Software - Connects the station to a Server Computer, distributes the data to the WeatherBug Network of more than 7,000 stations and WeatherBug Desktop, the Internet's #1 source for live local weather.

InstaCam - Captures images of weather conditions every five minutes.

Being broadcasted LIVE with a 3-6 second delay (broadband connection), this weather information is found exclusively on our home page  and on WeatherBug.  The Server Computer ID#-211 can be accessed directly by The National Weather Service, The Department of Homeland Security and WeatherBug.  Installation guidelines are meet in occurrence with AWS WeatherNet standards.      

With it's certification with the Department of Homeland Security, the AWS WeatherBug Tracking Station provides the community with the most latest weather information. It's other key role is to provide the most accurate Live weather information for the National Weather Service and The Department of Homeland Security in the event of an emergency or disaster.

 


Second Station - Davis Vantage Pro Plus with Live WX Cam consists the following:        

Wind SensorProvides wind speed, wind direction. (Cup type)

ISS Fan Aspirated housing provides temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and dew point.

Rain Gauge -  Heated unit, measures amount of rain and provides rainfall rates.

UV Sensor -  Measures ultraviolet light.

Solar Sensor -  Measures solar radiation.

Digital Display - Indoor display showing the current weather station readings.

Weather Computer ID#-210 - Running software to take and upload weather information.

Live WX Cam - Provides live picture with weather readings.  Captures images of weather conditions every five minutes.

Installation guidelines are meet in occurrence with The National Weather Service standards.      


Lightning Detector - Boltek Storm Tracker Lightning Detector consists the following:

Storm Tracker Lightning Detector Sensor -  Directional antenna, detects the low frequency radio signals produced by lightning electrical discharge.  It is located on top of the building at 29 feet above ground to clear any metal in the area.  Has a range from 0-300 miles away.  In some cases it can detect lightning up to 600 miles away.

 Storm Tracker PCI CardA circuit board that plugs into a PCI bus slot of a computer that converts the low frequency signals into data.

Lightning Software -  Converts the data into an image.  This also identifies the type of stroke, the severity and range.

Lightning Computer ID#-212Houses the Storm Tracker card utilizes Aninoquisi's Lightning 2000 software.
